“Uncle Ji Paani Pila Dijiye” is a viral catchphrase from Indian Instagram creators @Shahanishamarthlifevlog. The family consists of a father, a mother, and a young boy and girl who create video skits. In early 2023, @Shahanishamarthlifevlog’s videos started going viral on Instagram Reels, with audiences commenting on the young boy’s drawling and shrill manner of speaking. Jokes about the boy “lagging” or being a “999 ping” began circulating on meme pages in June 2023, with audiences divided between finding his cadence amusing and finding it irritating.
Origin
On August 5th, 2022, the Instagram page @Shahanishamarthlifevlog began posting short skits with moral messages. Early posts and videos indicate that the family consists of a young boy and a young girl, both below the age of 10, and a young father and mother. On February 7th, 2023, Shahanishamarthlifevlog posted a video where the young boy begs for some “paani” or water from the father but is mocked before the mother intervenes. The video includes the dialogue, “pani pani pani” and “uncle ji, paani pila di jiye.” The video, which garnered over 50,000 views and 3,400 likes, marked the beginning of a recurring trend of water bottles featuring in Shahanishamarthlifevlog’s content.

Shahanishamarthlifevlog’s videos often incorporate simple visual effects like CGI snakes and glowing light. On March 27th, 2023, they posted a video that featured the recurring “paani” and purple water bottle theme, as well as CGI snakes and glowing filters. The video received over 100,000 views and 5,600 likes in three months (seen below, left). Another video uploaded on April 29th also showcased these themes and effects, accumulating over 170,000 plays and 8,000 likes in two months.

In June 2023, various Instagram pages began sharing memes about the young boy featured in the videos. On June 5th, the Instagram page @aparashit posted a meme featuring the young boy. The caption translates to, “even if the old man interrupts me, I never want this boy to interrupt me.” The post received over 5,300 likes in two weeks (seen below, left). On June 12th, @aparashit shared another meme featuring the boy, gathering over 5,300 likes on a carousel post.
